M50 Southern Cross Emergency Telephones

The Elmore Group was awarded the contract to supply and install motorway emergency phones on the Southern Cross section of the M50 by Dublin City Council and the NRA. This was the Clearsonics’ / Elmore Group inaugural project where a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) WayPhone system has been utilised including Pedestal WayPhones, fibre modems and a full WayPhone Manager for the control room which is essentially a virtual PBX.

The VoIP system of phones and Manager provided significant cost benefits over hard wired systems. As no PBX is required the system is less complex and costly to maintain plus a number of additional facilities can be provided such as Public Address.

Essentially Clearsonics has replaced hardware with software. The VoIP option is ideal for large networks of emergency telephones where fibre is preferred with a TCP/IP protocol.
